Does it seem like your energy bills have shot up in 2020?

No, it is not your imagination. According to an article this morning on MassLive.com, Massachusetts spends more on utility bills than almost every other state in the United States of America. There is only one exception, Connecticut.

How incredible is that? Hard to believe that we spend more on utilities than even California or New York, where there are millions more people and fewer resources for energy. In fact, Boston is the No. 1 most expensive city in the nation when it comes to the size of utility bills.

One explanation as to why our bills seem to have gone up significantly is because of COVID-19. More Massachusetts residents decided to work from home than ever before. This, of course, caused a spike in utility usage.

I can tell you firsthand, for months our whole family was working and going to school from home. Between laptops and phones on the internet, and streaming Netflix, we were using incredible amounts of energy, but it was going unnoticed by us.

Truthfully, I've never been so thankful to have solar panels on my home. It doesn't matter how much the cost of energy fluctuates, when you have solar panels, any energy bills (monthly payments on the panels) are steady. Even better, after the panels are paid off in a couple of years, it won't matter what the cost of energy is, my power will be free. It seems inconceivable, but it is true.

Solar isn't for everyone, but if your house is a good fit you should absolutely consider it. We used a local Fall River company called Isaksen Solar. I like them because their solar panels are very high quality and American made. I'm a busy guy, and the whole process was turn-key. I didn't have to do anything at all.

If you are tired of unpredictable energy bills, call Isaksen Solar to see if your house gets enough sun to make solar an option.
