Happy Wet Nose Wednesday! Let's talk animals.

Here is the hard truth: Local animal shelters are overflowing with animals, and all of them are worth the love of a forever family.

Each week, we shine a light on one of these animals in hopes of finding them a home.

This week, we head to New Bedford where a retriever mix hopes to play with you.

Meet Shay. Shay is a 3-year-old, 50-pound female retriever mix at Lighthouse Animal Shelter in New Bedford and she is the life of the party.

"Shay is a bundle of energy when she first comes out into our play yard, but once she has run a few laps around the yard, she is ready for lots of snuggles," said the shelter.

Shay loves being outside. She is all about playtime with the shelter volunteers, and if you play tug-of-war with her, she'll love you forever.

Shay is very food-motivated and the shelter believes she will be a breeze to train.

"She is quite attentive when our volunteers talk to her and give commands," said the shelter.

Shay is social with other dogs and even did well with the cats at the shelter. She is going to make any family that gives her a chance very happy.

Does Shay sound like a good fit for you and your family? Contact Lighthouse Animal Shelter online and schedule a play date.

Shay cannot wait to meet you.
