Happy Wet Nose Wednesday! Let's talk animals.

There are hundreds of animals on the SouthCoast waiting for a place to call home. If you are considering a new pet for your family, please consider adoption.

With the help of local shelters, we share the story of one animal each week in hopes of uniting them with the perfect home.

This week, we head to Fall River where a puppy needs some help coming out of his shell.

Meet Lightning. Lightning is a nine-month old lab currently residing at Forever Paws Animal Shelter in Fall River and he has become known as "the cowardly lion."

"He's a gentle soul that needs some help embracing how to be a puppy," said the shelter. "He needs to learn how to let loose enough to realize that being a bouncy, rambunctious puppy is okay!"

Once Lightning warms up to you, he is an incredibly sweet boy. The truth is, it takes a bit for him to warm up.

His future home will need to show patience as Lightning learns how to be comfortable.

"This shy boy lacks confidence and needs things on his terms for now until he feels safe," said the shelter.

Lightning is around 55 pounds, so he is just about done growing. He's still very much a puppy, and with that, comes the occasional zoomies and misbehaving. Lightning will need some obedience training and the shelter recommends puppy classes for socialization to increase his confidence around humans and other dogs.

"After a little work, be prepared to be rewarded with the sweetest, gentlest, most loving soul you could imagine," said the shelter.

Lightning cannot wait to meet you.
