Westport Teens Shovel Their Way to Praise and Purpose, One Driveway at a Time
There's nothing I enjoy more in my line of work than coming across a solid "feel good" story.
In a refreshing twist that warmed hearts in chilly Westport, Sue Arsenault, a resident on Sanford Road, shared a glowing review of two young local entrepreneurs who brightened her day with their hard work.
Two 13-year-old boys, Logan and Jackson, students at Westport Middle School, took to the local neighborhoods, shoveling driveways, decks and stairs after a recent snowfall.

“We just had two nice kids from Sanford Rd. come to our house and ask if we wanted our driveway, deck, and stairs shoveled. At our age, we said yes. I have to say these kids did a terrific job," Arsenault posted on Facebook.
"They asked twice if there was anything else we needed them to do. Usually, kids are in the house playing video games instead of being outside in this cold making money. After paying them for their service, they said they would be back when we get the next snowfall. I guess they were happy with their payment," she wrote. "To the parents, thank you for letting me stay warm on this chilly day. You have great kids."
Logan and Jackson weren’t just out to make a quick buck; they were on a mission to save up for e-bikes and sports gear.
Logan's mother, Meaghan Ferraz, and Jackson's parents Melissa Raposa and Paul Marshall, were delighted to hear about their son's efforts being appreciated, responding, “I'm proud of them and thankful for people like you (Arsenault) giving them a chance! I'm proud of them and their hard work; it's not always well received going door to door, so it's a relief they were met by someone like you!”
Arsenault echoed this sentiment, adding, “They were very polite boys, thank you. I'm the one that's appreciative to you for instilling great work ethic in your children at such a young age. More parents should be like you. Thank you. Hope they return when the next snow falls.”
This story of Logan and Jackson is a reminder of the enduring value of hard work, community spirit, and the joys of disconnecting from screens to engage with the world outside.
It’s heartening to see young people like them trading video games for shovels. Here’s hoping for more snowy days and opportunities for Logan, Jackson, and others like them to continue making a positive impact in their community- one snow covered driveway at a time.
