Town authorities have recently raised concerns about issues with the Hix Bridge. A problem with a weaker mix of concrete has now been identified.

According to Wicked Local Westport, for several months selectmen and town authorities have been pushing state authorities to take action on the Hix Bridge. The span was rebuilt in 2005 and has already started deteriorating on some of the pillars and cracking on the sidewalks.

Due to these concerns, the state conducted a dive inspection in September. The state doesn't have any concerns about the bridge's safety. There are some issues arising now, but they are not at the point where they need to be repaired. The town hopes that when the repairs do need to be paid for, the state will be the one to cover the cost.

The issues now are due to a problem back in 2005. There were issued that surfaced durning the first stages of construction and a weker mix of concrete was used to address the problem. It is in those places that there are problems now.

At the upcoming meting, selectmen  voted to incorporate the report in their minutes.
