The days are counting down on a local childhood landmark, so we say 'all aboard' for a trip down memory lane.

News broke at the end of 2016 that the McDonalds on William S Canning Blvd will be undergoing a remodeling in the near future. This McDonalds location is more famously known as the McDonalds with the train cart sticking out of it. Unfortunately, the remodeling plan does not include the train. The 95-ton train cart was part of the McDonalds restaurant since 1982, serving a special dinning experience for up to 60 people at a time.

The McDonalds train holds a lot of childhood memories for many of us on the Southcoast. Generations of families have stopped in to this location for a unique experience they couldn't find anywhere else. For many, this meant corralling all the kids for a long car ride to Route 81 just to see the kids' reaction when they see the train.

Whether you only took one trip or this was your go-to McDonalds location, it's safe to say there will be a train cart sized hole in the Southcoast's heart for some time.
