The fifth annual Watuppa Celebrates America is a party on the water like no other.

Neighbors of Watuppa Pond in Westport are gearing up to parade around in decorated pontoon boats in honor of Independence Day.

American flags, patriotic banners and everything red, white and blue will floar around the pond in an orderly fashion, led by Westporter Christian DaSilva. Since 2018, DaSilva and his team have been assembling the pontoons for a fun-packed day on the water.

"It's the fifth year for Watuppa Palooza, and hopefully, since Covid restrictions are lifted, I'll be expecting a great turnout," DaSilva said. "I also opened it up to Fall River and other Westport social media groups to join us. Our Facebook group has been growing."

Watuppa's family picnic area and Dave’s Beach boat ramp have always been great viewing areas for the public to watch this pontoon spectacular, which each year increases in participants and interest.

"If it keeps growing, I’ll have to get more people involved to help put the event together," DaSilva said. "All in all, it’s a lot of fun on the water and on shore. Just pack a lunch and enjoy the day."

Watuppa Celebrates America will launch on Saturday, July 9, 2:30 p.m., with a rain date of Sunday, July 10. Participants are asked to line up at 2 p.m.
