Warwick, RI is adding roller skating and bumper cars to its new outdoor skating rink this summer.

Back in January, Mayor Frank Picozzi announced he hoped to add bumper cars to the City Hall Plaza rink—and over the weekend, that officially became a reality.

In a post on Facebook, Picozzi shared video of guests testing out the bumper cars during a trial run. Starting Wednesday, May 20, the attraction opens to the public.

Bumper Cars Officially Debut in Warwick

While bumper cars are expected to be the big draw, there's another addition that might quietly steal the spotlight: roller skating.

For those like me who have never skated outdoors before, this is a chance to give it a try—and it's quickly climbing my own summer bucket list.

Bumper Car Hours and Pricing

That said, the bumper cars are still getting the prime daytime hours at the rink. They'll run Wednesday through Friday from 12 p.m. to 3:45 p.m., Saturdays from 10:30 a.m. to 2:15 p.m. and Sundays from 11 a.m. to 2:45 p.m. Tickets are $12 for a 10-minute session—so yes, it's a bit of a splurge for a quick ride. Reservations are strongly recommended.

Roller Skating Takes Over in the Evenings

Roller skating takes over later in the day, with sessions Wednesday through Friday from 5 p.m. to 9 p.m., Saturdays from 3 p.m. to 6 p.m. and 6:30 p.m. to 9:30 p.m., and Sundays from 3:30 p.m. to 6:30 p.m. Admission is $8 for adults and $5 for kids and seniors, with skate rentals available for an additional fee.

Personally, I'd take $8 for a few hours of skating over $12 for a quick spin in a bumper car—but if you're in it for the laughs and the crashes, the bumper cars might be your move.

A New Summer Destination for Families

Either way, Warwick's rink is shaping up to be a go-to spot this summer—with a playground, library, and ice cream just a short walk away, it could easily turn into a full day out for families.
