Victim in Westport Hit-and-Run Dies from Injuries
PROVIDENCE, R.I. — The woman who was struck by a car while she was walking along a road in Westport last week has passed away from injuries sustained in the crash.
The Bristol County District Attorney's Office says Stephanie Tripp, 30, of Fall River, passed away at Rhode Island Hospital.
Investigators are still seeking information leading to an arrest of the driver of the BMW 3-Series sedan that struck Tripp last Tuesday.
Witnesses to the crash say Tripp was struck by the vehicle as she walked along Old Bedford Road in Westport on May 7. The driver of the vehicle stopped only to apologize for hitting the woman before driving off at a high rate of speed.
The car, believed to be a gray BMW 3-Series model from 1999 through 2005, was last seen in the area of Faunce Corner Road and Old Fall River Road in Dartmouth. Police say the car likely has minor damage to its hood, front end, and possibly the front passenger side.
