NEW BEDFORD — The victim of a homicide in New Bedford last night has been identified as 35-year-old city resident Eric Jose Carlos, according to the Bristol County District Attorney's Office.

The D.A.'s office noted that New Bedford and state police detectives continue to investigate the murder, which took place around 6 p.m. Monday in the city's West End.

At 6:06 p.m. on March 21, New Bedford police received a 911 call about a male shooting victim at 117 Hillman St.

Police and paramedics arrived to find the victim on the porch of the house suffering from a single gunshot wound.

The victim, later identified as Carlos, was rushed to St. Luke's Hospital, where he was pronounced dead just before 7 p.m.

According to the D.A.'s office, the investigation is "extremely active" and no further information will be released at this time.
