September is an exciting time at United Way of Greater New Bedford as the organization kicks off its new campaign, "Live United Week." All this week, you can show your United Way spirit by giving, advocating, or volunteering.

Whether it is posting a picture in your Live United Shirt, attending Pints & Portraits for some networking, volunteering, or entering the Coloring Contest – there is a way for everyone to get involved.

UWGNB kicked off the festivities with "Together We Can Day," on Monday, September 12. The day highlighted different ways we can come together to better the community. On Tuesday, September 13, members of the SouthCoast community will post photos of themselves wearing their "Live United" shirts in honor of "Live United Day."

The celebration continues with "Pints & Portraits" at Moby Dick Brewing Co. on Wednesday, September 14. The business after-hours networking event provides food and an opportunity for business professionals to have their headshots taken. A suggested donation of $20 is requested for the headshot, but you can enjoy the night even if you don't need your picture taken.

"Thankful Thursday" on September 15 will allow UWGNB to show gratitude for some of the biggest supporters.

"Day of Caring," is held each September, and will be on Friday, September 16 this year. The day brings together volunteers from local businesses who give their time and services by assisting nonprofit agencies with various projects that they may not otherwise have the staff or resources to accomplish. This not only provides agencies with valuable support but also allows volunteers to see first-hand the tremendous work being done in the community. Registration will be open soon, so check the United Way website for more details.

And just in case you were wondering how you can get the kids involved, there is a "Coloring Contest" happening now. Show UWGNB what it means to Live United. Draw a picture of what you can do to make a difference in our community. Art can be submitted all month long and winners will be announced in early October.

SouthCoast School Districts with the Best Teachers

There are a lot of amazing teachers on the SouthCoast and as parents we appreciate them all. Yet one site asked students who they felt had the best teachers around and the results may surprise you.
