United Way of Greater Fall River partnered with Burlington and Delivering Good to collect coats in November of 2020 as part of Burlington’s national campaign.

Members of the SouthCoast community stepped up and donated new and gently-loved coats of all sizes up until January 4, 2021. All of the coats that were donated to the Burlington Coat Drive were sorted by volunteers and delivered to distributed to schools, agencies, and organizations in Greater Fall River in an effort to keep those in need warm this winter.

The drive was a success, but the need remained long after the last coat was distributed. United Way of Greater Fall River partnered with local agencies and businesses to collect more coats from members of the community. Meg Rogers is the Communications Coordinator at United Way of Greater Fall River and she commented on the program.

“Each week, whatever we collected went back to the community. Coats and winter accessories went directly to schools, food pantries, homeless outreach programs, shelters, and other local agencies. We’re grateful for new and past community partners who helped keep Greater Fall River warm this winter season. This coat drive was a prime example of the collaboration that exists in Fall River”

United Way of Greater Fall River has collected over 1,000 winter coats and winter weather accessories since November so that everyone in the community can have winter hats, scarves, gloves, and face shields to keep them warm.

We will joyfully accept the warmer weather this week, but it’s nice to know that Greater Fall River is taken care of in case Mother Nature decides to revert back to colder temperatures again.
