Two Horses Euthanized After Being Hit by Truck in Middleborough
MIDDLEBOROUGH - Two horses had to be euthanized following an accident in Middleborough.
Middleborough Police say at approximately 5:49 p.m. Thursday, a woman called police to report that two horses had been struck by a vehicle on Vernon Street.
Police determined that the horses had escaped from their owner and, while running down Vernon Street, were struck by a truck traveling south towards Route 44.
The driver of the truck, a 58-year-old Bridgewater man, told police he was driving on Vernon Street when a vehicle traveling in the opposite direction began flashing its lights at him. While the driver was focusing on the flashing lights, he collided with the horses.
Witnesses say the truck was not speeding at the time of the crash.
Middleborough Animal Control responded to the scene and euthanized the horses on site.
No charges have been filed against the driver.
