I've been a major fan of Turk's Seafood in Mattapoisett for decades, well before they were a sponsor of my morning show on Fun 107. I was so sorry to see them close down for weeks at the beginning of the pandemic, and just as thrilled to see Turk's open back up with a re-imagined way of executing take out.

One thing that we didn't know Turk's needed before the pandemic was outdoor dining. To be honest, it was never something that even crossed my mind, which is incredible considering it's so busy during the summertime when outdoor dining would be at its peak.

When outdoor dining became the "it" thing this spring, Turk's didn't rush it. In typical Turk's style, they approach their business like it is a marathon, not a sprint. They wanted to do it right – and they did!

Turk's Seafood has now unveiled the Turk's "Live Lounge," built with three-foot cedar planters and live walls of greenery. In a perfect final touch to the open-air deck, sails are draped over the top of the outdoor dining area to provide shade for customers. A tent will be added soon to help insulate for heat.

Turk's took it a step further, transforming their sushi deck into a new "open-air" inside deck, where a majority of the "walls" are glass sliders and doors that completely open the space inside. The floors are equipped with radiant heating and heaters will be used both outdoors in the Live Lounge and inside with the open-air seating.

Turk's is currently taking reservations for dinner at three different times:  4 p.m., 5:30 p.m., and 7:30 p.m., but they are looking into expanding serving times. Lunch is open seating, and take-out is, of course, always available.

Turk's has really used the pandemic as a way to look at their operation and find ways to improve an already successful, dominant product.
