At about 10:45 am a jolt was felt on parts of the Southcoast today. We felt it here at Fun 107 in Fairhaven and according to Facebook posts, some felt it in the South End of New Bedford, and parts of Mattapoisett.

An earthquake of 1.9 magnitude was reported  by the Weston Observatory in Massachusettes just north of New bedford.

Dr. John Ebel of the Weston Observatory told NECN that earthquakes are more common in New England than most people realize.

“We pick up about half a dozen earthquakes per year that are felt somewhere in New England. Most of them are like the one this morning; small, no damage, felt by just a few local residents,” Dr. Ebel said.

No aftershocks have been reported just yet.
