Training Advised Before Attempting New Bedford Half Marathon
Lots of folks like to go for a run in the morning or perhaps burn up the treadmill before hopping in the shower before work. But that doesn't necessarily qualify you for the New Bedford Half Marathon, which returns next month after a two-year hiatus due to COVID.
I hear lots of folks expressing a desire to train before running the New Bedford Half Marathon, and according to the experts, that makes a lot of sense. A suggestion is to drive the course before attempting to run it to get a sense of what it is all about.
The hill on Nauset Street and the Hathaway Road hill could be deal-breakers for the faint of heart among us. East and West Rodney French Boulevards appear to be a breeze. They are relatively flat and wide open – but they are also exposed to the wind off the water that can be bitter cold on a March day.
The most common advice appears to be to start slow and work your way up to it over a period of months.
The New Bedford Half Marathon will be held on Sunday, March 20, 2022. It is put on by the New Bedford Half Marathon Committee and hosted by the Friendly Sons of St. Patrick. The race begins at 11 a.m. in downtown New Bedford. Spectators are certainly encouraged to turn out to support the participants.
