Donated funds have been given to the Westport Free Public Library to help several locals who are legally blind.

Through the technological advancement of a desktop magnifier, those who are having a tough time reading will be able to see clearly.

According to Library Director Sue Branco, the technology is new but has not popularized yet. She hopes that the word will spread so that many others with a vision deficiency can use the magnifier to their advantage.

The Westport Free Public Library is the first in the Southcoast to provide such technology within a library to help the legally blind or those who have difficulty reading due to poor eye sight. Branco hopes that Westport, being the first, will set a positive example to surrounding towns and cities to follow in their lead so people everywhere can take advantage of the available technology.
