The Oldest House in Wareham Is For Sale Right Now
The oldest house in Wareham is currently up for sale.
Located at 13 Great Neck Road in East Wareham, this colonial-style home was built in 1683 and has been on the market for almost a year. Area residents refer to the 337-year-old property as "The Morton House” and it is older than America itself.
The house has four bedrooms, two full bathrooms, with 3,950 square feet, and sits on a one-acre lot. Last sold in 2015, the property is now listed for the asking price of $589,900.
According to Realtor.com, this historic house is “antique with a modern addition, custom-crafted to match the original charm.” The previous owner of the home, Gerry Pearle, is a master antique restorer and it was her mission to “preserve the true essence of the 1683 Josiah Morton home.”
Realtor.com states that "The Morton House' was a premier location for early settlers & once occupied by Revolutionary War Lieutenant Prince Burgess." In case you can’t see the inside of the house in person, take a look at the photo gallery below to check out the historic features listed at Realtor.com:
- Original exposed beams and wide plank floors

I don't have the cash to drop nearly $600,000 on a historic home like this, but it is beautiful to look at. I'm glad that the current owners decided to bring the home back to glory with original charm. It would be a shame to see a place like this get turned into something that looks like every other home on the SouthCoast.
