A Childhood Star Wars Memory

I was just a very little kid when I saw the first Star Wars movie. I have a vague memory of my mom hyping me up the day we were supposed to go see it. We were heading to the drive-in, and I lasted about 15 minutes before I was zonked out in the car seat.

The Movie That Stuck With Me

Three years later, I saw my favorite Star Wars movie, The Empire Strikes Back. I was on the edge of my seat when Darth Vader broke the news to Luke, “No, I am your father.” My jaw hit the floor. Somehow, I went into the movie without spoilers tipping me off about that blockbuster moment.

Why This Event Matters

Return of the Jedi was certainly fun to watch three years later, but it did not carry the same level of excitement and tension as the previous two films.

When you think about it, though, I have really only seen two of the three original Star Wars trilogy movies in a theater setting. I haven't seen one of the Big 3 in theaters since I was 10 years old. That is why I was so excited to hear about the Zeiterion Theater’s plan to show all three movies on May the 4th (May the 4th Be With You).

A Smart Move By The Zeiterion

It's a brilliant idea from the Zeiterion. The event falls on a Monday, which is not typically a high demand night. It is also a great way to draw a new audience to the newly renovated facility. The Zeiterion Theater would be smart to host more events like this, if for no other reason than to introduce the venue to people who might not normally attend its less mainstream stage performances.

More Movies Coming To The Z

I was also excited to see E.T., The Muppet Movie, and Notorious, the documentary about Notorious B.I.G., coming to the Z in June.

It looks like August will feature a tribute to Bill Murray movies, which I can definitely get behind. Hey, who knows? Maybe Bill will make a Monday night stop on Purchase Street to surprise the audience.

High five to the Z for showing these movies.  I'd love to see even more programming and performances targeted to the 25-54 year old crowd.
