This topic came up recently, and to be honest, before now, I never heard that soy sauce was one of the best remedies for minor burns.

"The soy sauce I use is the original La Choy Soy Sauce, and you know what? It works like magic on burns and mosquito bites," insisted one of the early morning listeners.

She said that when she turned 80 years old, she fell and cut her lip.

"My bottom lip was so swollen, you wouldn't believe it. So I soaked soy sauce on a paper towel and put it on the cut. It didn't sting or hurt and the swelling went down fast. It's unbelievable!" she said.

She said not everyone will respond to the soy sauce like her. She knows through years of using it that for her, soy sauce works 100 percent for getting rid of the pain from a sunburn, and from other minor burns, like from a hot pan on the stove or the hot handle of a coffee mug coming out of the microwave oven.

Apparently, this is a common burn treatment for many.

My octogenarian friend added, "You're not going to believe it, but you'll never blister and the pain never comes back, either," she said with her strong Norwegian accent.

To think, the way this whole conversation started is when I mentioned the story about going back to when I was six years old and got stung by a furry yellow jacket. My uncle insisted that I pee all over the place where the bee stung me. He lied!

I bet if I had put soy sauce on it, it would have worked.
