SouthCoast Poll: Canned or Homemade Cranberry Sauce?
My mother and wife were planning Thanksgiving dinner on the phone last night. We're usually responsible for bringing pops and sweet bread up to my parents house (there are no respectable Portuguese bakeries north of Boston). My wife casually threw in that we'd also be bringing cranberry sauce. That's when I got involved.
When she says we'll be "bringing cranberry sauce," she means she'll be making her homemade cranberry sauce. Don't get me wrong, it's a super nice gesture, and one that would go over big for Thanksgiving on her side of the family.
But the Rocks are not classy people. We prefer our cranberry sauce molded in the shape of the can out of which it slithered. I tried to make her understand that if she really wants to bring a crowd pleaser to Thanksgiving she should just bring the canned stuff. Otherwise, you're going to get table full of people eating the homemade cranberry sauce to be polite instead of thoroughly enjoying the canned, jelly cranberry sauce that they actually want. She refused.
Gazelle agreed with my wife, so I decided to take the next 10 calls live on the air to see how many people would rather eat the canned Ocean Spray cranberry sauce instead of fancy pants, whole-berried, homemade cranberry sauce. I'm not going to lie, the results of this impromptu poll surprised me.
Take a listen to how those calls went:
Hey, this is valuable information if you are planning at Thanksgiving dinner. You might as well give the people what they want.
