When I think of America, three things come to mind: freedom, baseball and hot dogs.
Better yet, the freedom to enjoy a Fenway Frank while watching the Red Sox crush the Yankees.
Let’s take a moment to appreciate the hot dog.

It’s simple, it’s delicious, and it’s an undeniable symbol of the American dream; but sadly, some dreams come to an end. Over the past 20 years, at least 10 beloved hot dog joints across the SouthCoast have closed their doors for good.
The most recent loss (coming soon) was Gary’s Best on Ashley Blvd. While the building still stands and is on the market, it just won’t be the same without Joe and Anita Franco behind the business (or the counter).

For decades, these spots were more than just places to grab a bite. They were part of the community.
Whether it was a roadside stand serving up steamed buns or a hole-in-the-wall known for its legendary chili dogs, each had its own charm. Some boasted secret family recipes; others had the crispiest, snappiest franks in town.
They all had one thing in common: loyal customers who kept coming back.
