SouthCoast Hailstorm Captured in Unseasonable Weather Footage [VIDEO]

In a bizarre twist of weather, the SouthCoast of Massachusetts was pummeled by marble-sized hail on Monday afternoon. The storm, which lasted a good 5-10 minutes depending on the location, brought an unexpected chill to what is usually a sweltering August day.

The National Weather Service and ABC 6 Providence had issued a severe thunderstorm watch earlier in the day, but few could have predicted the intensity and strangeness of what followed. Mattapoisett, New Bedford, and surrounding towns were among the hardest hit, with hailstones clattering against rooftops, cars, and streets, creating a surreal scene more reminiscent of winter than the dog days of summer.

Lightning cracked across the skies, adding to the chaos as drivers scrambled to find shelter under overpasses and in parking garages. The sudden and almost unpredictable onslaught of hail turned a typical summer afternoon into a spectacle of unseasonal weather.

As the storm moved through, social media lit up with photos and videos capturing the unusual event, from hail-covered lawns to back porches and rooftops. The storm eventually passed, leaving behind a SouthCoast both stunned and relieved.

While the SouthCoast is no stranger to summer storms, this one just might be remembered for its icy twist in the middle of what is supposed to be the hottest time of the year. Like a light switch, the weather changed from a gorgeous morning and early afternoon to an aggressive storm that left behind no mercy.

Hopefully, not too much property was damaged or there were zero injuries.
