SouthCoast Couple Offers Gifts For Dogs and Dog Lovers
This story, quite literally, has gone to the dogs.
If you or someone you know has a furry friend, a canine companion or a precious pooch, there's a great local company offering pet products that you will love.
Local couple John and Kim Mattar grew up on the SouthCoast and got their education from UMass Dartmouth. Kim pursued a degree in operations management while John focused on management information systems.
For these high school sweethearts, they and their studies were a perfect match. While going into business together seemed like the next logical step, how it happened was quite spontaneous.

A dog boutique in Rhode Island was closing and Kim's father, a former businessman, suggested they purchase the discounted inventory and turn it into a fun project while earning their degrees.
Alas, DogLoverStore.com was born. The name says it all.
The business, which began with sales exclusively on eBay in 2008, has reached worldwide attention with the couple noting sales in Canada, Australia, France, Mexico, South Africa and England.
"We offer a wide variety of gifts and home decor perfect for any dog lover, whether it's for a birthday, Christmas, Mother's Day, or just to say thank you," Kim said. "From socks and ornaments to figurines, outdoor items, toys, slippers and notepads, we have something for every occasion."
"We also carry a selection of items for dogs themselves including collars, potty training bells, dog collar charms and bandanas," she said. "There's something for every pup and pup parent."
The U.S. is also a popular shipping destination and where most of the product comes from. Kim said they've "made it a priority to carefully curate a wide selection of products made in the USA, and proudly highlight each American-made item."
"Over the years, we learned the importance of sourcing local and made in the USA products and supporting talented makers like artists, woodworkers, and many others," she said.
The quality and care behind their business doesn't go unnoticed. Customers have shared heartfelt stories and feedback, particularly those who have had to say goodbye to their pets.
"It touches us deeply when they tell us how the item brings them to tears – tears of joy and remembrance," Kim said, noting it's a memento they are happy to provide.
"These are special moments for us because we know we're connecting with our customers on a meaningful level, giving them something that will bring a smile to their face and warmth to their heart for years to come," she said.
