Growing up in a home with Irish heritage, eating meals like corned beef and cabbage was totally normal to me. We would eat it regularly all year long, usually on Saturdays. Sometimes we called it corned beef, but other times we simply called it a boiled dinner.
Looking ahead to St. Patrick’s Day this morning, we started talking about corned beef and cabbage on the MGM Show. Michaela admitted she was not a fan because she feels like the flavors in the corned beef pot all blend together into one singular and unappetizing taste.
The Real Problem with Corned Beef and Cabbage
I completely understand people who turn up their noses at corned beef and cabbage. If I did not grow up eating it, there is a 0.0% chance I would ever order it.
In fact, I would like to have a word with the marketing team responsible for naming corned beef. If we're being honest, how does the name corned beef and cabbage sound appealing to anyone?
Corned Beef Remains a St. Patrick's Day Favorite
Regardless of the name, every St Patrick's Day there is an enormous amount of corned beef eaten across the country.
Here on the SouthCoast, the tradition is alive and well. Even in a region packed with countless Portuguese restaurants, many local spots still jump on board the corned beef train for the holiday.
As someone who would rather buy corned beef and cabbage at a restaurant than a supermarket, I am grateful that SouthCoast restaurants serve it each year.
