Massachusetts Should Close Schools and Businesses on St. Patrick’s Day
Saint Patrick's Day in Massachusetts has always been a big celebration, and with it falling on a Monday this year it got me thinking, why don't we have the day off?
I was just reading an article that has a list of the top 10 best cities in the United States for Saint Patrick's Day. Boston comes in at No. 1, as if that is any surprise to us.
Some of the other cities within the top 10 include Reno, Savannah and Chicago with its green river. Another Massachusetts city, Worcester, is in the top five.

Looking at some of these cities, many close schools and businesses to allow people to celebrate.
There are plenty of Irish people in our area, and in order to celebrate on the actual holiday with Irish traditions, many will have to take the day off from work or school. This is why I think we should observe this holiday as we do others and have school and work closures.
Hear me out.
I know most of us celebrate with green beers and other adult beverages and usually celebrate the weekend before or after the actual holiday so we can recover.
Keeping the Irish traditions as well as the celebrations in mind, we are probably going to see an influx of people calling out of work or school anyway.
I'd say the same for a Portuguese holiday, although our celebrations typically take place in the summer months.
I know I'm not the only one that has thought this, and maybe I'm just reaching for another day off, but with other cities across the country doing it, I don't see why it can't be considered.
