The SouthCoast’s Best Spots to Teach Teens How to Drive

Now that my daughter has finished the classroom portion of her driver's ed class, it is time to get serious about getting her out on the road.

Since it is summertime, we have been driving almost exclusively at UMass Dartmouth. While there are a few students here and there, the campus is a ghost town for the most part. The main road on campus is called Ring Road, which, appropriately enough, forms a ring around the campus – which, by the way, is more beautiful than I remembered.

Ring Road features a double yellow line, stop signs, parking lots and side streets. It really is an ideal spot to teach a beginner driver how to manipulate the automobile at a very basic level.

The problem is, we've been to UMass Dartmouth about four or five times, so it is becoming slightly repetitive. I tried to think of other spots on the SouthCoast that could serve as nice places to teach my daughter how to drive.

I got a tremendous amount of help from callers to Michael and Maddie and input on Facebook.

The feedback was so strong that I decided to make a list of all the places that were suggested. Each of these spots has its own unique reason for being a good place to learn. Some of them are ideal during the day, others at night. Some are best used over the weekends, while some are best used during the winter.

It is a great list of SouthCoast spots that can be used as a reference to find a fun driving spot for you and your teen any time of the year.
