Fall River Karaoke Finals Crown Two-Time Champion Brittany Thompson

Brittany Thompson of Exeter, Rhode Island hit all the right notes on Friday, July 18, taking home the championship title and a $1,000 cash prize at the Social Club Karaoke Finals hosted by DJ Dan Mac of Mac Attack Entertainment at Canned Heat Craft Beer.

The finals brought together 10 of the best karaoke singers from past competitions held over the last four years, each having previously won a Social Club Karaoke contest.

In total, 30 songs were performed over three rounds. Contestants selected their own songs for Rounds 1 and 3, but Round 2 required a track released between 2020 and the present.

“This was spectacular,” DJ Dan Mac said. “To have 10 of the absolute best vocalists in the area come head-to-head was quite a sight. The fact we were able to fill that brewery with people who were just there for the love of music made it even more magical. It was a tough decision, but Brittany came out on top."

This marks Thompson’s second big karaoke win, making her a two-time Social Club Karaoke champion with a total of $2,000 in winnings.

Brittany’s Winning Night

Thompson, 35, performed:

1. Round 1: "You and I" by Lady Gaga
2. Round 2: "I Am Woman" by Emi Mellie (2021)
3. Round 3: "Cuz I Love You" by Lizzo

Her powerful rendition of "I Am Woman" was a standout.

“I had goosebumps,” one judge said. “Her rhythm and tone were spot-on. Close your eyes and you’d think you were at the concert.”

Thompson admitted she felt nervous going first but quickly settled into her groove.

“Once the first song was out of the way, it was like, ‘All right, let’s do this.’ The crowd was so supportive, which makes all the difference," she said.

A Personal Triumph

For Thompson, this win was about more than just karaoke. A self-described lifelong singer who once got in trouble in school for humming too much, Thompson recently experienced a major life change. After being laid off from her cybersecurity job in April, she spent her father’s final months with him before his passing.

“My dad led a life of adventure and grit,” she said. “Being on stage is my way of channeling that same thrill he had riding motorcycles. Winning this was healing for me.”

She plans to use part of her winnings for new motorcycle gear, honoring her father’s adventurous spirit.

What’s Next for Brittany Thompson

When she’s not performing karaoke, Thompson is involved in theater and has previously competed in Rhode Island’s Wakefield Idol competition, where she placed second. Next, she is performing at the Ocean State Ren Faire, and then hopes to land an acting role in a Christmas production at the Contemporary Theater in Wakefield and perform in their annual Christmas Cabaret.

As for karaoke, DJ Dan Mac said the finals will likely return.

“The support for these competitions is incredible. We’d love to do it again," he said.
