FALL RIVER — State and local authorities were led on a chase Wednesday by two men believed to be connected to a shooting in Fall River earlier this week.

Fall River Police say detectives from the Major Crimes Division observed a gray 2018 Subaru Legacy sedan with Tennessee registration plates in the South End of the city on Wednesday at about 4:30 p.m. Police believe the vehicle may have been used to flee a shooting in the city on Monday, as it had been captured on a nearby video surveillance camera moments after the shooting took place.

After spotting the vehicle, detectives engaged in a pursuit of the car when it failed to stop for police once they had activated their emergency lights.

Taking into account the time of day, as Halloween festivities were beginning in the city's neighborhoods, Fall River Police called off the pursuit.

A description of the vehicle was broadcast to surrounding police agencies, including Freetown Police and Massachusetts State Police.

Police in Freetown soon spotted the vehicle north of Fall River and also engaged in a brief pursuit.

The suspect vehicle changed direction during the pursuit and re-entered the highway, traveling south toward Fall River. Massachusetts State Police picked up the pursuit of the car, which made its way through Fall River.

Fall River Police soon found the vehicle abandoned near the Italian Progressive Club on Slade Street. Two men were seen fleeing the car on foot, headed in opposite directions. One of the men was last seen wearing a red hooded sweatshirt and jeans, with the other suspect last seen wearing a grey hooded sweatshirt and jeans.

The Massachusetts State Police Airwing was deployed to the South End of Fall River in an attempt to locate the two suspects. The Fall River Police K9 Unit was also deployed in an effort to track down the men. However, the suspects could not be located.

The abandoned vehicle has been seized by Fall River Police. It has been towed to the Fall River Police Department for further investigation.

Fall River Police continue to investigate the circumstances surrounding the shooting.
