We've all driven Route 195 East and West at one point. It even was called Interstate 195 or I-195, depending on who you run into. Different names, same highway. It wasn't always there though, obviously.

Back then, Route 6 was the fastest way from Providence and the Cape. According to Spinner Publications, about thirty city blocks were razed in order to build the new interstate downtown connector exchange for Route 195 and Route 18.

Here's what it looked like back in the 1960's.
