A 27-year veteran of the Cape Cod town's police department has been arrested and charged with assault with intent to murder after he allegedly rammed the back of a family member's car several times on Route 6 while off-duty.

The car was eventually run off the road but the driver was not injured. According to The Cape Cod Times, 46-year-old Michael Hoadley was arrested late Thursday night and also charged with assault and battery with a dangerous weapon, domestic assault and battery, operating to endanger and leaving the scene of an accident. He has been suspended and placed on paid leave.

The newspaper also says that Hoadley was suspended in 2010 for leaving the scene of an accident, and was placed on administrative leave in 2011 after he was accused of sending another officer harassing text messages.
