There will soon be something new to explore inside Roger Williams Park.

What’s Being Built at Cunliff Lake

Construction is currently underway on a new pedestrian boardwalk at Cunliff Lake, with a fishing overlook, upgraded accessible boat ramp and a kayak launch, giving visitors a new way to experience the park's often underrated waterfront.

According to the City of Providence, the roughly 300-foot timber boardwalk will wind along the lake's edge, allowing pedestrians to enjoy a safer and more scenic route through the park.

Work has been underway since last fall, but as new photos show, parkgoers might be walking on water fairly soon.

New Features for Anglers and Kayakers

Anglers will also enjoy the new over-the-water fishing overlook, offering a peaceful spot to cast a line while taking in the park's natural beauty.

Focus on Sustainability and Habitat Protection

That natural beauty is another major focus of this new project. The plans include preserving the park's environment with native plantings and shoreline enhancements that aim to protect the habitat while improving stormwater management.

While construction means continued detours in the area for vehicular traffic, the end result promises to be worth it—creating a safer, more enjoyable experience for walkers, kayakers and nature lovers alike.
