
Rhode Island-Made ‘Ella McCay’ Now Has Release Date
Last year, Rhode Island rolled out the red carpet for the stars of James L. Brooks' feature film Ella McCay. This year, fans will get to see those stars on the big screen.
After spending months filming at locations around the Ocean State, Brooks' first full length movie in 15 years has its official release date.
The timing leads many industry experts to believe the film is looking for some awards show attention next year.
When Will Ella McCay Be in Theaters?
Mark your calendars for September 19, 2025, film fans, because that is when the latest movie written and directed by James L. Brooks will be debuting in theaters.
Starring Woody Harrelson, Ayo Edebiri, Kumail Nanjiani, Emma Mackey, Spike Fearn, Jamie Lee Curtis and Albert Brooks, the film follows a young politician who becomes governor and her struggles to balance her career with her family life.

The movie was filmed throughout Rhode Island last year, with many of the movie's stars staying in the area from February through May.
But before it can hit the theaters this fall, some of the stars have to return to Rhode Island.
Ella McCay Shooting Additional Scenes in Rhode Island This Spring
Perhaps because this is Brooks' first film in over a decade or maybe it's because his last big screen adventure was pretty much a flop, but the legendary writer/director has added some new scenes to Ella McCay and needs to come back to Rhode Island.

Although the new scene locations have not been revealed, we have learned that some of the film's stars have to come back for filming starting in March.
Perhaps they'll return to some of these previously used sets soon.
