Residents Evacuated, Device Detonated at Fall River Apartment Complex
FALL RIVER — Authorities evacuated a Fall River apartment complex and detonated a suspicious device Thursday night.
Fall River Police say that at approximately 8:17 p.m. Thursday, they received information regarding a suspicious package located in a rear parking lot of the South Coast Landings apartment complex, located at 4980 North Main Street. Upon arrival, officers confirmed the presence of a possible explosive device.
Police secured the area, and called in the Massachusetts State Police Bomb Squad, the Federal Bureau of Investigations and the Bureau of Alcohol, Tobacco, Firearms and Explosives.
The MSP Bomb Squad inspected the package with the use of a robot, causing its detonation. No injuries occurred as a result.
Police say the incident is not believed to be terror related, but said it is not considered random, either.
At this time, there are no suspects. The incident remains under investigation by Fall River Police, State Police, the FBI and the ATF.
