FALL RIVER (WBSM) — The Rehoboth man accused of killing his pregnant teen girlfriend and then burying her body on his property has been indicted by a grand jury for her murder.

Bristol County District Attorney Thomas M. Quinn III announced that Gregory Groom, 22, was indicted by a Bristol County grand jury for the murder of Kylee Monteiro, 18, as well as a charge of witness intimidation.

Groom is scheduled to be arraigned in Fall River Superior Court on Tuesday, November 25.

Missing Teen Investigation

Monteiro was 11 weeks pregnant when she was reported missing in August. She was the subject of an intense search for about a week after she had reportedly gone to Groom’s home to retrieve some items, but then was not seen again.

Assault and Initial Arrest

It is alleged that Groom assaulted Monteiro at his home at 107 County Street in Rehoboth on August 6, and then reported her missing the next day. Police initially arrested him on charges of aggravated assault and battery on a pregnant person, domestic assault and battery, and witness intimidation.

Discovery of Remains

Monteiro’s remains were found buried on his property on August 19 after investigators brought in backhoes and other equipment to assist with the search. Groom was then charged with her murder in addition to the previous charges.

Another Death on the Same Property Weeks Later

A little over a month later, on September 26, first responders were called to that same address for a report of two unresponsive adults in a van on the property. One of them, identified as David Lunn, 54, died. The other person, his 48-year-old wife, was also unresponsive but at last word was in critical but stable condition at a local hospital. The D.A.’s Office said no carbon monoxide was detected, but noted the couple had a history of drug abuse. The incident was deemed “not suspicious.”
