A week after a puppy in Rehoboth was shot, police are still searching for answers.

ABC6 reports that Dakota, a six-month-old lab from Rehoboth, somehow ended up shot in the spine.

Dakota's family says she had been out running around in the woods behind the family's home last week and when she got back to the house, she was acting strangely.

After a visit to the vet in Swansea, the family learned that Dakota had been shot. The vet found a pellet lodged in the dog's spine.

Police were called and neighbors were interviewed, but there are still no answers as to what happened to Dakota.

It's believed she was shot with a high powered pellet gun and as Dakota's owners tell ABC6 they just hope it was "an accident and not an act of cruelty."
