Want to get away from it all once in a while? Then how about owning your own island on Massachusetts' South Shore?

A small, private, completely undeveloped island is for sale in Scituate and it could be yours for building your dream oasis.

Horse Island is not your typical island. There are no white-sand beaches, no palm trees and often no water. So, what's this island's deal?

This private Scituate island is three acres of cedar trees, granite outcropping and wild blueberry bushes all surrounded by marshland.

When the tide is low you can walk right out to your private island. When the tide is high, you must navigate your way out there through peaceful coves.

It all sounds super-rustic and quite the adventure for anyone who wants to live off the grid, yet close to civilization.

Owning Horse Island puts you just a few miles from supermarkets and drive-thrus, yet gives you the sense of living in your little world surrounded by nature.

The land has been owned by the same family since the mid-1950s when according to The Patriot Ledger it was bought for $5,000 by local developer Dominic DiGiacomantonio as a Christmas present for his wife Elaine.

The DiGiacomantonios never built anything on the island and it remains a vista of trees, rocks and wildlife to this day.

There are no reports of wild horses on Horse Island and what gave this piece of land its name remains lost in time.

Lost to no one, however, are the gorgeous views you get from this raised area of Scituate. If you were to build here, your house would look out over Cohasset Harbor in the north, the Atlantic Ocean to the east, and green marshlands to the west and south.

Nice spot to make all your own and, for the asking price of $750,000, you can.
