Portuguese Kids Bring Cultural Comedy to Fall River Stage
Apa, guy! It’s the Fourth of July!
The MGM Show couldn’t head off on summer vacation without one last dose of chaos and comedy. That’s exactly what we got when The Portuguese Kids stopped by in character as Lino (played by Derrick DeMelo) and Joey (played by Brian Martins).
The Big Announcements and A Legendary Local Stage Debut
The visit was in honor of their upcoming performance on Wednesday, July 10 at the Narrows Center for the Arts in Fall River, their first time hitting that legendary local stage.
From the moment Lino opened his mouth, it was a full-blown comedy takeover.
“What do we win for being on The MGM Show? Nothing?” Lino shouted. ”Hey guy, it got me here, bro. That’s all you need,”
Lino’s son Joey Souza barked back after complaining he had to Uber just to be there.
From Chouriço to BYOF: Peak Portuguese Humor
The back-and-forth was relentless, hilarious and downright relatable to any who was raised Portuguese. From parenting jokes, job-hunting mishaps, and the universal struggle of delivering barrels to your tia in Portugal, no topic was off-limits.
When asked about their Fourth of July plans, the answer was peak Portuguese.
“What’s more American than grilling chouriço?” Lino asked. “Happy Birthday, America! Let’s cook Portuguese food.”
Don’t expect a full spread unless you’re bringing your own meat.
“I’ll supply the gas for the grill. You bring the food. BYOF: Bring Your Own Food. I’m cheap but smart,” Lino explained.
A Tour That Goes International
The characters also gave a glimpse into their upcoming international tour, which kicks off after the Fall River show with stops in Lisbon, Porto, São Miguel and Santa Maria.
“The only bad part is my parents stuff my suitcase with ketchup, cereal, and peanut butter. They already got that stuff over there!” Joey complained, but nah, these were Lino’s traditions.
Where to Catch the Fall River Show
Tickets for their July 10 show at the Narrows Center are available now.
And as Joey said before wrapping up the interview, “If you’re having a party for the Fourth, pick me up, guy!”
Happy Fourth, America, from The MGM Show and The Portuguese Kids.
