FOXBORO (WBSM) — A new state-of-the-art movie theater is coming to Patriot Place in Foxboro, the first of its kind in New England to offer the pinnacle of sound in every auditorium as well as heated reclining seats.

It was announced today that Phoenix Theatres is moving into the space formerly occupied by Showcase Cinemas, which closed back in October as part of the company’s downsizing of its locations. It also closed the Providence Place location, which has since been replaced by Apple Cinemas.

What Is Dolby Atmos?

Dolby Atmos is a more precise version of surround sound, adding height to the circular audio experience of surround.

According to Dolby.com, “Dolby Atmos has reinvented how entertainment is created and experienced, allowing creatives everywhere to place each sound exactly where they want it to go, for a more realistic and immersive audio experience.”

“Whether you’re gaming, watching your favorite movie or show, or listening to that new track on repeat, Dolby Atmos transports you into a spatial sound experience that draws you in deeper, so you hear more and feel more.”

Phoenix Theatres’ Track Record and Strategy

Phoenix Theatres began in Michigan in 2000 and operates 10 theaters in Michigan, Ohio, Tennessee and Iowa, as well as the Beacon Cinema in Pittsfield. The Patriot Place location will mark the company’s 93rd theater screen.

One of the interesting things about Phoenix Theatres is that the company looks to revitalize closed movie theaters rather than build from scratch.

“Phoenix was originally formed with the idea of refurbishing closed theatres in viable retail areas and returning well-operated neighborhood theatres to their respective communities,” said Cory Jacobson, President of Phoenix Theatres. “We could not be more thrilled to be a part of the energy and excitement that surrounds Patriot Place. The exceptional mix of retail, dining, entertainment and hospitality makes Patriot Place a world class destination that deserves a world class theatrical experience.”
