Pawtucket Red Sox Seats Find New Home
For years I've admired the state-of-the-art building that stands at 2000 Pawtucket Ave. in East Providence, Rhode Island. That's the address of my alma mater, East Providence High School.
The building that once stood pales in comparison to the school that opened in 2021. In addition to the beautiful halls and classrooms, EPHS boasts a large collection of athletic facilities on their grounds.
From a football field to tennis courts, there's room for all, including the baseball team. That team's field, located in the front of the building and easily seen from the road, now offers unique seating to take in a game and cheer on the Townies.
McCoy Stadium Seats Find Near Home
Two rows of McCoy Stadium seats have been installed behind home plate.
“I’m incredibly grateful for the collaborative work between East Providence City Council President Bob Rodericks, our administration, and Pawtucket Mayor Donald Grebien in helping to bring Rhode Island and baseball history here to our city," Mayor Bob DaSilva said.
“These seats, along with a plaque, will offer our community a trip down memory lane and a history lesson for generations to come, this is a home run for our city," he said.
More History Added to East Providence
“In 1941, East Providence hosted two of the greatest to ever step foot on the diamond, George Herman 'Babe' Ruth and Ted Williams for hitting demonstrations at Pierce Memorial Field," DaSilva said.
The moment is set in stone (literally) as a large plaque highlighting that day stands outside of Pierce Field. Also in East Providence, Pierce has a variety of fields and served as host for EP's home games of football, soccer, baseball and softball.

I had the pleasure of playing softball there and soccer under the lights during my time at East Providence High School.
It was a great facility, but it required the Townies to be bussed to their own home games. So when news came for changes of the EPHS grounds to include fields, I was thrilled for the current students.
“We now have another piece of baseball history in our city, seats from McCoy Stadium, home to the longest game in professional baseball history and a place which allowed Rhode Islanders to watch all-time greats such as Carl Yastrzemski, David Ortiz, Jim Rice, Wade Boggs, and Mookie Betts play the game they helped define and love," DaSilva added.
A special ribbon cutting and unveiling will take place on Thursday, April 3 at 4 p.m.
