Over a Dozen Gravestones Vandalized at Acushnet Cemetery

ACUSHNET — Police are investigating after over a dozen gravestones were vandalized in the Acushnet Cemetery.

Acushnet Police Detective Sergeant Christopher Richmond says police received reports beginning Thursday morning at around 7:15 a.m. of multiple gravestones that had been toppled over. Investigating officers found a total of 17 headstones that had been purposefully knocked off of their bases.

Richmond says all of the toppled gravestones were located on the same lane on the western side of the cemetery.

In addition to the gravestones, some decorations at grave sites had been smashed and thrown around, as well, said Richmond.

The Plymouth County Sheriff's Office assisted the Acushnet Police Department with processing the scene.
