A boat collision on Watson Pond in Taunton Saturday left one person dead and two others injured.

State police say the high speed boat crash happened around 1:30 p.m. during the Bill Giles Memorial Regatta on Watson Pond.

A boat traveling at 65 mph spun out of control and caused a pileup. A second boat then crashed into the first and a third boat then crashed into the second.

All three drivers were ejected from their boats. Members of the Taunton Fire Department's dive team were on hand for the event and were able to pull all three victims from the water quickly.

The driver of the second boat, a 39-year-old man from New Hampshire, was pronounced dead at the scene.

The driver of the third boat, a 67-year-old Maine man, was taken to Rhode Island Hospital where he remains in critical condition at last word.

The driver of the first boat, a 72-year-old Main man, was treated for minor injuries.

No identities were released pending notification of family members.

State police are investigating the incident, but no foul play is suspected.
