One Direction’s ‘Best Song Ever’ Named Best Song of the Summer at 2013 MTV VMAs
With some 8 million votes accounted for in fan voting before the show even started, it couldn't have been a huge shock that One Direction nabbed the Moonman for Best Song of the Summer.
Their 'Best Song Ever' took the honors at the MTV Video Music Awards tonight (Aug. 25), besting contenders including Miley Cyrus and Selena Gomez.
1D's tune is so catchy even alt-rock presenters Vampire Weekend couldn't help singing a snippet of it when announcing it won. An ecstatic Niall Horan was the first band member out of his seat, and the guys all hugged and congratulated one another before dragging director Ben Winston on stage with them.
Harry Styles was the first to speak. "Wow, we want to say a massive, massive thank you to all of our fans. We know this was a voted award, so thank you so, so much to everybody who voted. It means a lot to us," he said, before gesturing to the clearly embarrassed Winston. "This is the director of our video, it was his idea ... so thank you to him."
"What Harry said!" Louis Tomlinson shouted, then handed the mic to Liam Payne.
"We can't believe the things our fans have done for us in the past three years, so thank you so, so much," said Liam, before plugging the 1D movie 'This Is Us,' dropping this week.
Btw, 'Best Song Ever' bested its next closest contender, Miley's 'We Can't Stop,' by some 4 million votes, so well done, Directioners!
