Old Rochester Volleyball to Face Dennis-Yarmouth in Division 3 State Final
With the Old Rochester volleyball team making history with its win over top-seeded Tewksbury in Tuesday night's semi-final, it was a waiting game to see who they would face next, and where.
Today, the teams have been selected. The date and time has been set. The location has been determined. Now, all they have to do is serve.
Massachusetts D3 State Volleyball Championship Matchup Set
The Old Rochester Bulldogs will face the Dennis-Yarmouth Dolphins Saturday morning in a familiar spot. They'll be returning to Bridgewater Raynham Regional High School, the scene of Tuesday night's thrilling victory over Tewksbury.
This time, however, the game will be for everything: the Division 3 Volleyball State Championship.
Old Rochester and Dennis-Yarmouth Are No Strangers to One Another
These two teams are certainly familiar with one another, and they are just about as evenly matched as two teams can be. The Dolphins (20-2) hosted the Bulldogs (21-2) in September and beat them 3-1. However, it was early in the season, and there were still a few moving parts that needed to be ironed out. The Bulldogs wouldn't lose again for the rest of the season, a streak they'll carry all the way to the finals Saturday morning.
In late October, the two teams faced off again in a Friday night showdown in Mattapoisett. The competition was as fierce as it gets, and it took five sets, but the Bulldogs pulled out a win over the incredibly tough D-Y.
Second-seeded Dennis-Yarmouth beat sixth seeded Bedford 3-1 last night in the semi-final game that was hosted at Dartmouth High School.
Enjoy Every Moment
What advice is ORR volleyball coach Jimmy Oliveira giving to the girls as they prepare for this weekend's championship game? "Enjoy this moment! Enjoy every point. Every set," he told them.
