The Friends of Jack Foundation's "Unsung Heroes" campaign is officially underway.

The locally-run foundation, which focuses on the health and wellness of SouthCoast children, is looking to recognize people on the South Coast that have made a positive impact on you or the community.

Candidates could be a family member, friend, teacher, co-worker, business owner, or coach. Anyone who has made a difference to our SouthCoast community would qualify to be recognized as an Unsung Hero. The Friends of Jack surprise our Unsung Heroes with lawn decorations similar to the ones that appeared at Old Rochester Junior and Senior High this week.

Jill Fearons, executive director of the Friends of Jack Foundation, explained how wonderfully the Unsung Hero award is going.

"Our first letter came across my desk a couple of weeks ago from Jill, that runs the nutrition and food and beverage for all of the Tri-Town schools, and she nominated for her cafeteria workers," Fearons said.

Fearons said that on Wednesday, February 10, 2021, the Friends of Jack team went to all of the schools in the district to recognize the cafeteria staff and surprise them with lawn decorations.

"The program is really based around the community members that do amazing things that just sort of fly under the radar," Fearons said.

You can nominate someone to be recognized as a Friends of Jack Unsung Hero by emailing a letter to jill@friendsofjack.org or mailing it to P.O. Box 419, Mattapoisett, MA 02739.
