When the New England Patriots sent Jimmy Garoppolo packing to the San Francisco 49ers three years ago, the speculation and comparisons began immediately. Would the Patriots regret the decision to trade the younger Garoppolo in order to keep the aging Tom Brady?

It's hard to argue with the results since the Patriots made it to the Super Bowl (and lost) that season, but then followed it up by winning the Lombardi Trophy the following season.

The move turned out to be a win for the young QB, and the Niners as well. Jimmy G has done quite a bit of winning in San Francisco. He is 21-7 as the starting quarterback for the 49ers and led his team to the Super Bowl last year. Overall, it seems that both sides of that trade were successful.

Would the Patriots be better off with Cam Newton or Jimmy G as their starting quarterback in 2020?

"That's a tough question," said ABC6 Sports Director Nick Coit. "When we first saw Jimmy in New England, there was a talent there as he filled in for Tom Brady during his four-game suspension. It was like a little glimpse of what would life be like with Jimmy G at quarterback."

If you remember, it wasn't so bad, but Garoppolo did get hurt in the second of the four games, which led to questions of his durability.

Garoppolo also has the luxury of throwing to the best tight end in football right now, George Kittle. Patriots coach Bill Belichick couldn't say enough about how much he admires the 49ers tight end.

Coit's prediction is that while it will be a close game, the Patriots will hold on to win and get back to the .500 mark.
