The NFL recently tried to make an ad promoting Breast Cancer Awareness Month, but players didn't show up.

The NFL regularly tries to raise awareness breast cancer awareness every October, through public service announcements along with wearing pink gear on the field. However, this year's commercial shoot didn't go as planned.

According to the New York Post, they scheduled the commercial months in advance to feature New England Patriots wide receiver Danny Amendola and Carolina Panthers running back DeAngelo Williams performing a breast examination on themselves.

Ad agency Grey was brought in for the project, along with top director Henry-Alex Rubin, who has worked on Gatorade commercials in the past. The league also had a breast cancer survivor drive from Boston to New York, where the PSA was being filmed. But, when the day came to shoot everyone was left hanging by the players.

Apparently, Williams canceled the night before because of an injury he needed to rehab. Despite having a flight booked in his name, Amendola's reps claimed he was never contacted about the shoot and the Patriots don't allow players to do midseason appearances.

The crew along with the cancer survivor waited for hours at the site while the NFL scrambled to get any player they could. The communication breakdown didn't end with Amendola and Williams. The punter for the New York Giants agreed to help, but he didn't show up either. The NFL sent a car to pick him up, but apparently by the time it arrived at his house he was told they no longer needed him.
