In the wake of the shocking news of Demi Lovato's drug overdose, it can be hard for one to grasp how truly difficult it is to overcome addiction. We talked to Nick Correia, someone who is currently on the winning side of his own battle with heroin addiction, to give us some insight on what Demi might be going through.

Nick told us that after a long period of time of staying sober, sometimes addicts can grow comfortable. "You believe that just one last time, won't have much of an effect on you," says Correia. He assures us that "one last time" is rarely the case, and that people need to understand that the stakes are "life or death."

Now part of the Herren Wellness Group as a coach, his message to the singer was to really reflect upon herself and uncover the true reason why she is a user. Correia readily admits that the path to recovery is not easy, and he credits a lot to his success to his faith. Correia also emphasizes opiate addicts should seek help through AA/NA meetings, and find the right community to keep you focused on a substance-free life.

Needless to say, everyone here at Fun 107 is hoping that this is Demi's "rock bottom" moment, and that she is able to get the help she needs.

We spoke with Nick a couple of years ago when he shared his personal story with Fun 107.
