New Bedford’s Freitas Family Featured on Disney Show

Megan Freitas moved a lot as a little kid. Her dad was in the Army. Just like many military families, she moved every two to three years as her dad would get transferred to different bases. While living in Hawaii, she met David in middle school, where the two of them earned co-valedictorian status. David says he knew all those years ago that he wanted to spend the rest of his life with Megan.

After Megan's dad retired from the Army, the family moved back to her father's hometown of New Bedford, where they opened All Ranks Academy of Gymnastics. Megan went to college at UMass Dartmouth, but then David lured her to transfer schools to be closer to him.

She's no longer living in New Bedford, but that didn't stop her boyfriend, David, from flying out to the SouthCoast to ask her father's permission for her hand in marriage.

Megan's father Dustin quickly said yes, praising David as the exact kind of guy any father would want for his daughter.

After getting Dustin's permission, the next step was to break the news to the rest of Megan's family. At dinner that night, David told Megan's mom, Billie, and the rest of her younger siblings about the good news. The best part was that the whole family would be traveling back to Hawaii for David's elaborate engagement plan. Because the couple met in Hawaii, David wanted to pop the question at Disney's Aulani Resort.

The couple's engagement was featured in Season 2, Episode 1 of Disney's Fairy Tale Weddings. The hosts of the show helped David pull off the engagement that he was dreaming of for Megan.

Without giving away too much, Megan enthusiastically said yes in a very Hawaiian setting.

When it was all said and done, David was thrilled to have the successful engagement behind them.

"I planned the proposal, Megan can plan the wedding!" he said.
