Another Beloved New Bedford Restaurant Closing Permanently
This one is going to hit hard for a lot of you. After seeing restaurants like Freestone's, Dough Company, Mimi's Kitchen and Rustico throwing in the towel, we have another to add to the list. But this one's different. Let's pour out a sip for Yor Dogg Mil.
Here's the thing. This closing of this Kempton Street landmark is going to hurt for two reasons. First and foremost, this roadside stop has been an absolute staple in New Bedford for 52 years.
Secondly, the restaurants above, to varying degrees were for a somewhat upscale crowd. Yor Dogg Mil was food for the every man. There aren't many places you can get breakfast omelets for under $10 these days. That might be a part of the problem.
The kale soup was arguably among the best in the city, and it only sets you back $4. The cacoila sandwiches were also legend status, and only cost $7.50.
Kendra, an employee who answered the phone Wednesday night told Fun 107 that the rumors were true: Yor Dogg Mil will be closing. She said that the quick serve restaurant would permanently close their doors on December 28, 2024.
The reason? Owner, Phyl Morgado has decided to retire. "We were pretty surprised to hear the news," said Kendra. "I think the people are going to miss coming here and we'll miss working here."
She's right. Most of us don't know what it's like to live in New Bedford without Yor Dogg Mil serving up good old fashioned, no frills food at a reasonable price.
Why is Yor Dogg Mil Spelled This Way?
One Rock family mystery must be solved before December 28. We've always wondered about the questionable spelling of Yor Dogg Mil. My wife has always said I'm overthinking it. The dog is simply not the best speller (in human standards). However, the Scooby look-a-like was pretty solid in spelling from a K-9 perspective.
Best of luck to the staff at Yor Dogg Mil. Hope you are able to find a new job quicker than the public is able to find a replacement for Yor Dogg Mil. That's going to be a tall task that might take a while.
